Prom

Why am I not going to prom???? Hummm???? Well I am taking a stand in what I believe in!!! I am a Christian, I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and realize that he is the only way we can get to heaven. I also try to obey all his commands and I follow the bible.

The bible talks about how we as Christians should not conform to the ways of this world!!!! What is prom? Prom is something that the world has glorifies for centuries. I thought that the idea of prom and seeing all your friends for the last time is a beautiful idea. But sadly and like always the devil has distorted this celebration and made is bad.

I went to prom two years ago with my x-boyfriend, I saw many girls half naked, drinking, dirty dancing, and I mean like real dirty. It basically looked like sex on a dance floor. Prom has become worldly. Just like I would not go to a club or any school dances, why is prom different?

Before, I always said that Christians need to be lights, and that light is best seen in darkness. Unfortunately that scenario doesn’t work with prom. At prom everyone is blind, and as we all know, blind people can’t see. So my light would make a difference. When I came to that realization, God told me that I need to stop fighting him and just not go.

So, now I am not going. Yes, I do feel left out, but that is a good feeling. I am left out of the devils plan for my life!!!!! YES!!!!

Now I am not saying that everyone who goes to prom is horrible people who are going to hell. I cannot be compared to my fellow class mates because I have allowed God to bring me to levels higher than the rest.

I will never find happiness or joy in what the devil promotes. I will never associate myself with things that Jesus died for. I will never say I am a Christian and act like the people in the world. By me not going to prom, I am standing up and standing out which is exactly what God wants me to do!!!!!!!

Auditoning for Mainstage

Hello world!!! Today I auditioned for my schools production of the 12 Angry Jurors which is a adaptation of the 12 Angry Men. I have always wanted to me in a major school production and do what I love. I would have loved even more is the play was a musical but you can’t get everything in life.

During the actual audition I thought I did terrible, I totally forgot my monologue which is very weird. I practiced many times and I have never had problems with memorization. It was so bad that I actually stopped in the middle!

So now I am just waiting to see if I get a role in the play. I would absolutely love any role that they give me and I know that I will.

Branded by God

In this generation, we have an egotistical view of our selves. It is all about us. We buy clothes that make us look good; we use Facebook and Twitter to allow others to see us and what we are doing. We do so many things that glorify us, our image, and our personality. To prove my point, let me ask you some questions. Would you ever put an ugly picture of yourself on Facebook? Would you ever tweet that you’re going poo, so that everyone you know would look at you differently? Would you ever tell someone important that you are selfish, rude, unorganized, and never on time???? If you care about your image, you would never do these things!!!!! I am the same way; I have the same picture of my on Facebook because I know I look good!!!

The problem with this is that while we are focused on our selves, God therefore has no say. We should be spending the time figuring out what God wants for us, not what we want for us. You should know that God always has the better plan, because his ways are soo much greater than ours. His plans are so much bigger than ours. Our minds can’t comprehend his dreams for us. So which is better, our view of who we should be or God’s view?

I personally think that Gods’ plans are so much better than mine. So knowing this, we should discover what He wants us to do and the plans He has for us. Essentially we have to be branded by God. He already has given us a specific identity, gifts, and character traits.

Unfortunately this task of being branded by God can sometimes be very difficult. If you look in this world, there are soooo many different brands that are very successful and unique. We look to those brands and are moulded and shaped by them. In the world, there are sooo many young girls who wish to be like Beyonce and do everything she did and does so they can be like her. As a Christian we look at other influential pastors and evangelists, and we read their books and buy their CD’s and try to preach like them or sing like them. We become second rate, no longer unique or different.

God has called us to be set apart, different, and unique. He has called us to allow him to shape us, mould our future, and make us great. He wants to brand us, and from that we will create a following of people who will do the same. God intention is never for us to be a no name brand or second rate to someone else. There is something inside of every one that God has already placed there, that we need to uncover and develop. That something could be talent beyond our wildest dreams, or that something could be an idea and will change the world. Imagine if every one allowed God to brand them, our world would be transformed.

So, are you going to answer the call? God is knocking on your door, will you answer? You are called to be soo much more than what you are! God wants to establish a kingdom of people who He has touched and helped so that we can help others so that they can be helped and touched by God. GOD IS CALLING YOU!!!! YES YOU. It is not a coincidence you are reading this Blog, God is calling!!

If you want a change, and you are serious then you can join me in becoming branded by God!! Know that He loves you unconditionally and he wants the absolute best for you. Therefore seek God diligently, ask him what he wants to do. Ask him to reveal the plans he has for you. Become desperate in knowing. Don’t give up when he doesn’t answer right away; He wants to make sure you are serious. How bad do you want this??

Let’s pray “Heavenly Father, I ask that You reveal the plans You have for your people. We love You, we want You, we NEED You, we crave You. We want You to shape and mould us into new creatures that You have designed. God please, show us in a clear way so that we can understand what You want. We understand that our timing is not your timing so we will wait patiently for your answer and we will keep asking You and keep seeking You until You show us. We thank You and GIVE YOU ALL THE GLORY. Amen”

Precious

The movie precious was a heart wrenching, brilliant, thought provoking, movie. I found myself forgetting about my surroundings and all of my attention was devoted to this amazing movie. There was so much depth in this movie and it was filmed in such a way that made the viewer feel as if they were there and in the mind of Precious.

My Mother, my Aunt Ericka, my Nana, and I decided to have a girl’s day. We had some tea (my aunt use to own a tea shop downtown Toronto called La Tea Da), some chips and dip (my mom’s favourite) and got comfortable on my nana’s amazing couches and watch the movie together. It was a very peaceful and relaxing time. We put the movie in and pressed play and the moment of peace and relaxation was stolen and replaced by sorrow and panic. We were about to go on a rollercoaster called Precious!

During the movie, all of us women, especially my mom, nana, and my aunt were triggered by past events that happened to them that were shown in this movie. They were able to relate so some degree to the pain that was felt by precious. I was analyzing the acting, the scenes, the nuances, and so much more while still grasping what was going on in the movie.
When the movie was over, we literally didn’t know what to do, say, or think. We were all still taking in what just happened and we were trying to formulate a conclusion for this movie. We eventually started to talk about how we felt and the things we liked and disliked.

One of the comments that were made was that major events that happened in the movie ended so suddenly, and the movie never concluded the emotion that the writer wanted the viewer to feel. My comment to that was that by not specifying the emotion that should be felt by the viewer, it left room for the viewer to feel their own emotion. I felt that this movie allowed people to feel emotions that are true to them. For example, if someone who gets angry at abuse were to watch this movie. They would be able to feel that angry instead of another emotion such as sadness because that was what they writer wanted to viewer to feel. I thought that this method was brilliant. People were able to relate to this movie sub consciously, and they had to freedom to feel what was natural to them.

Another thing i loved about this movie was its rawness and the realness that was given from all the actors. It felt that real life. I left the movie thinking that what i saw could be a reality for many people. The camera shots and movements made the movie even more authentic and real.

I can go on, and on about how much I loved this movie. I felt like there was soo much depth, sadness, and moments that can never be forgotten. Gabourey Sidibe and Mo’Nique were amazing in this movie. I thought that Mo’Nique was brilliant. I never once saw Mo’Nique the queen of comedy. I saw am sick and twisted abusive mother who has gone through hell. Gabourey Sidibe played precious soo well that if i were to see her on the street i would want to hug her and cry. It would be very hard for me to separate the character from the actor because her performance was so amazing and memorable.

LOVED IT!!!!! I would give it 4.8 stars out of 5. I feel like watching it again!!!!

Class From Hell!

Yes, on March 12, 2010, Eminence Production Company became the class from Hell!!!! We practiced method acting my becoming loud, obnoxious, annoying, scary, and weird students of Mrs. Thomas. It was utterly HIGH-LAR-IOUS!!!!! We truly were in the moment and the essences of our characters were felt by our special guest!!

There were defiantly some key people who really tapped into another realm of acting. Leighton and his laugh cracked me up! He was like a person you see in the street that you hope do not come and talk to you. Brittiany and Reshana were great at escorting our special guest to and from his car. They were truly great hosts, NOT!!!! They were the bread and butter of this operation. Their annoying smooth talk and tactics of getting our guest to dance were flawless. Also Kirsty and her loud voice was the cherry on top!! Everyone else played their part fantastically and we truly became the class from hell.

Through this moment, I really think our class became more of a family. We were happy and enjoying our selves! Although we were missing the lovely Johvanna, she was still with us in spirit. This day will never be forgotten and this story will be told to my grand children!!

Academy Awards

The moment we have all been waiting for. THE OSCARS!!!!!!!! The time where the academy chooses the best videos and actors and awards them for their great performances. I was looking forward to this show to see the fashion, to see who and what will win, and to have an organic moment with my mother as we watched it together.

The fashion was great!!! I really liked Cameron Diaz Oscar de la Renta gown. She wore it so elegantly and it stood out from the rest in my opinion. Also Jennifer Lopez was stunning in her Armani PrivĂ© gown. She wore it so amazingly and I looked like it was made for her. Another woman i though looked fantastic was Helen Mirren, who was nominated for Best Actress for The Last Station, wearing Badgley Mischka. She wore the heck out of that dress, she looked elegant and chic, but the dress suited her age, yet it made her look younger. She looked great. I didn’t like Sandra Bullocks velvet Marchesa gown. I thought it didn’t suit her.

One of my favourite moments in the Oscars was the dancing. I was very inspirational; I wished I could dance like them. My little brother Jeremiah was so excited while watching that part and he started to dance like the boys. I was very scaring a cool at the same time to watch him do back flips and jump on his head.

I was disappointed that Gabourey Sidibe didn’t win for best actress for the movie precious. I was hoping that she would win, but she now can say she is an Oscar nominated actress. I was also proud that Mo’Nique won for best supporting role. I was proud that she didn’t run on stage and yelled like she does on her show. She was poise and made a great speech.

The Oscars in general is an amazing opportunity. It is like an Olympic gold medal for actors and other people in the entertainment industry. It motivates people to make movies that provoke thought and are heart wrenching. All of the movies that were nominated were movies that had to power to change people perspectives and to influence change. The academy chooses movies that cannot be compared to the average romantic comedy.

All in all my experience watching the Oscars was a good one. I was able to laugh, get excited to watch more movies, and I saw myself one day winning an Oscar. My last though is that all of the people that won an Oscar had a vision or dream, overcame obstacles, and it were very deserving!

Branding

So today was the day that Eminence Production Company was going to show the class and special guests what we have been planning for a week and a half. All of our ideas, visions, plans were going to unfold in front of their eyes. We were very nervous and we felt a little unprepared, but I just knew we were going to do fabulous. I thought all of our group members we fantastic and we all had many things to offer.

The first group was getting their presentation ready and I was very excited to know what they were planning. They did a great job with the ambiance and decor, and the food was great. I did not the name they picked or the slogan, but they did a great job explaining why the choose it and what it meant.

The first group was finished, so it was our turn to go. During the tear down and set up process we ran in too many complications like conflicting personalities, over passionate people, and “stank” attitudes. We got through that, thanks to Mrs Thomas who became the voice of reason. After all of that we were ready for our class mates and special guests to come it.

We had the room looking very nice!! We had a red carpet, a photographer, white and black balloons, much food, and greeters. Then the lovely Johvanna addressed our special guests and introduced brittiany and I as the hosts. It was all smooth sailing from there. Our videos looked great and our sort scene went well and was very funny! Everyone loved all the food that was given and I was very happy at what was being done.

We finally finished and I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. I was very proud of my group members and myself for the great performance that we all made. I was happy with the outcome of the presentations. I also received compliments made by our guest of honour saying that we really impressed him and our group was very good.
